FractalWorks App Reviews

11 Customer Reviews:

This is not a high performance renderer. Even medium zooms into the Mandelbrot set take a long time. There are free programs that are much more efficient allow for deeper zooming into the complex plane. Remarkable however are the graphical capabilities such as color scheme or 3D viewer.

Ph.D. here. I rarely write reviews. But, I just paid ten dollars for it and then it asked me to register to verify I own it. What? When I try to use it, the interface is extremely basic and it can’t make three dimensional fractals as shown. I want my money back.

FractalWorks is quite impressive. I love the versatility of color control and user preferences. The 3d display is phenomenal. I highly recommend it! SA

This app is a remarkable achievement. The number of fractals it can generate is vast, and you need no technical expertise or Maths skills whatsoever to enjoy it deeply. Some days, I seek out organic geometries; other days, I simply plug in random values and revel in the surprises. The entertainment and aesthetic possibilities are very high. I play with this app often, and I always have a seriously good time.

I began to experiment with the beta version about July, 2009 and was instantly hooked. Support, when needed, was excellent and the kinds of questions when the project went live! You can jump into this program immediately and create gorgeous 2D images in minutes. If you read just a bit of the instructions, you can move into 3D with just a couple of mouse clicks. If you want to design your own number sets you can try the conservative approach as I did and make alterations to a preset you like, and hope you havent changed too much to get what you are looking to achieve. It would be fantastic if the DuncanC had incorporated the data sets in some of his more astounding creations so that we could understand what was done to get there (HINT, HINT!); perhaps that info is in the help files, which I haven not yet had time to study completely yet. Learning how to control fractals is the key; In the 3D aspect. you can easily pick up cues toward moving the view numerically, lighting, surface, contrast, and how to output the images as anaglyph, side by side, or simply gorgeous 3D rendered images at up to 400MP in TIFF OR JPG. I could rave about FractalWorks for quite a while, but truly if you are into fractals, and if you are especially into converting them to various 3D formats, all I can say is THIS APP IS A STEAL! Get it while you cany, and be sure to review it as soon as you can. Spread the word on FB, join Flickrs Fractal group, and make sure that there is enough financial support for this app to be continued and updated, especially whenever Apple changes to its next iteration of OSX!!

The last version of FractalWorks -- 1.0.3 -- which we had just "upgraded" to, was crashing upon opening on our 24" iMac (Mid 2007), running Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Our iMac has 4GB of RAM and a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. Our rating has now gone up to 4 stars now that we are able to use this great program again. It is was trying to have paid for an App that was temporarily unusable, but the developer responded with a bugfix with expedition. Thanks for the relatively quick debugging. This program, now back to being functional on our system, is excellent. If no major bugs are encountered in the next couple of updates, then we will up our rating to 5 stars.

I have had FractalWorks since version 1.0.3 and it has been nothing short of awesome. What sets it apart from the other Fractal applications is being able to view as well as edit a plot in 3D. And, as if that isnt enough, the support has been fast and efficient. The author is responsive and concientious. I couldnt ask for anything more.

Dont buy this, it is a rip off. There are lots of free web based fraktal apps that are better than this. This isnt worth installing for free let alone $10. Extremely limited features, very few settings. No animation, only a limited set of color options and only a two fractal formulas. The 3D options is a sad gimmick. I bought it and I feel ripped off.

Ive been really enjoying Fractalworks over the past couple of years. Its amazing what patterns lie waiting to be discovered, deep in the Mandelbrot. I love the 3D and color schemes, too. This little $10 program is a lot of fun!

While this may not be the most sophisticated fractal program out there, it’s ability to render 3D images is impressive. Sometimes, innocent looking little fractals turn into awesome landscapes, embroidery, whatever, when rendered in 3D. If you love fractals, FractalWorks is a lot of fun, and produces some types of images that are just not available from other programs. The ability to tilt the image, and control the lighting angles, is impressive. I am in no way an expert, but I love fractals, and I found FractalWorks to be a very worthwhile addition to my arsenal of fractal programs. No problems of any kind, just a lot of fun! I highly recommend FractalWorks! You really can’t go wrong with this one!
